From this series of papal writings, it is clear there were three conditions to maintaining use of a missal that existed prior to the Roman Missal's changes: the missal being used could not contain doctrinal error, it had to be of "ancient use" (not an innovation), and its use had to be continuous (the people attached to the missal had maintained its use uninterrupted, by not adopting the "new revised" missal.
